Medication Reminders Using Alexa
Alexa can provide spoken reminders at set times each day. This may be helpful if you occasionally forget when your medication is due.
Setting up a reminder by voice
Stand near the Alexa device and say:
“Alexa, remind me to take my medication every day at 9am.”
Alexa will repeat the details and ask you to confirm them. Set a separate reminder for each time medication is due, for example:
“Alexa, remind me to take my medication every day at 1pm.”
“Alexa, remind me to take my medication every evening at 6pm.”
“Alexa, remind me to take my medication every night at 10pm.”
Use a general phrase such as “take your medication” if you would prefer Alexa not to announce medicine names aloud.
Setting up a reminder using the Alexa app
A relative or friend can also help using the Alexa app:
Open the Alexa app.
Select More.
Select Reminders.
Select Add Reminder.
Enter the reminder, time and how often it should repeat.
Choose the Alexa device that should announce it.
Save the reminder and test that it can be heard clearly.
Reminders can be reviewed, changed or deleted within the Alexa app. Alexa may also send reminder notifications to a connected phone. Amazon’s Alexa reminder guidance
Important
Alexa provides a prompt only. It cannot confirm that the correct medication has been taken and should not replace the directions on the pharmacy label.
Check reminders whenever medication or dosage times change. If you are uncertain about when to take a medicine, contact McKay Pharmacy before changing the reminder.
If reminders are regularly missed, medication is taken twice or you are finding medication difficult to manage, please speak to our pharmacy team about other support options.
