Making Medication Labels Easier to Read
Medication labels contain important information about how and when to take your medicine. If you find the standard print difficult to read, we may be able to provide your dispensing labels in a larger font.
Large-font medication labels
Please speak to a member of our pharmacy team if larger print would make your labels easier to read.
We can record this preference on your patient medication record. Once enabled, the font size will be increased automatically on labels produced for your future prescriptions.
Larger-font labels may help you read:
- The name and strength of your medicine
- How much to take
- When and how often to take it
- Any additional instructions or warnings
Other ways we can help
If the directions on a label are unclear, please ask our pharmacy team to explain them. We can also help you identify your different medicines and make sure you understand how each one should be used.
Medicines can sometimes change in colour, shape or packaging, particularly when a different manufacturer is supplied. If a medicine looks different from your previous supply and you are unsure about it, check with the pharmacy before taking it.
Important information
Always follow the directions on the pharmacy label and read any information supplied with your medicine. Do not rely on the colour, shape or packaging alone to identify a medicine.
If your eyesight has changed significantly, or you continue to have difficulty managing your medication, please let us know. Our pharmacy team can discuss other forms of medication support that may be suitable for you.
How to request larger labels
Contact or visit your local McKay Pharmacy and ask us to enable large-font labels on your patient record. Once added, the preference will normally remain in place for future prescriptions unless you ask us to change it.
